When we first visited the island, we knew we didn’t want to stay in the big Jan Thiel hotel complex. We were looking for a resort right by the sea with a beach that was perfect for snorkeling and diving, and we wanted it to be in the quieter western part of the island. There should also be a diving center. It’d be great if it was within a 20-30 minute drive to Willemstad (the capital) and the airport.

That’s how we found the Coral Estate Resort.

In the VIP area (: select when booking; VIP studios have a separate pool for a total of 16 studios, which only a few use) you have a fantastic view of the sea from the upper floor.
Since then, there has been nothing better for us than sitting on our terrace in the morning and evening and gazing into the distance. When the sea is calm, we can even see individual corals in the sea. Not to mention the fantastic night sky.
The small beach is very busy at the weekend, however, as it is also accessible to non-residents – but it´s obligate to consume there. Nevertheless, the sea there is first class: totally clear water, good access via steps and fish surround us as soon as we get into the water.
While snorkeling, we encountered octopuses, seahorses and rays, and dolphins sometimes crossed the bay – at one time during a wedding celebration, great!
The diving there is also fantastic: direct access via stairs and after a few meters we are at a great reef. A thick rope serves as a guide for getting in and out.
